What happens to my real teeth when I have veneers fitted?

A patient considering veneers asks Dr Mark Hughes from The Harley Street Dental Studio:

Dear Dr Hughes, I am considering veneers but am a little nervous about having my real teeth completely filed away – is this always necessary? Thanks TJ London

"Thank you for your question. In a lot of cases veneers can be placed without any preparation or very little. It really depends on your own unique situation and the sizes and shapes of your teeth. The important thing is to figure out what you wish to try to achieve with them and work out the plan for the end result and how it would look in your face (we call this facially driven treatment planning) and we work backwards from there. Kind regards Mark”
