Tiktok users tape mouths to stop snoring – but why is it risky?

The latest trend to hit Tiktok sees users taping their mouths to stop themselves snoring. But why should this be avoided?

In a new fad, Tiktok users are taping their mouths shut when they sleep at night, which they call 'mouth taping'.

Some are claiming this leads to less snoring and better sleep – but dental professionals warn against the practice.

No conclusive research suggests the trend actually helps healthy people, with medical staff remaining cautious. Instead, they warn that taping may actually lead to trouble breathing and poor sleep.

Dentists also say it can provoke the development of dry mouth, which can lead to other conditions such as gum disease (periodontitis) and bacterial overgrowth.
