I’m a Celebrity…. Get me a new smile

With the nation excitedly anticipating this year’s line-up in the jungle for I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, we have noticed a trend occurring among those celebs made famous by the various TV reality shows they have appeared in.

In essence, popular series such as Made in Chelsea, TOWIE, Geordie Shore, Gogglebox and others have made celebs of us all! Well, maybe not quite but they have certainly fuelled our passion for aesthetic makeovers, making cosmetic treatments so much more acceptable – and accessible, too!

Whether we are in London, Essex or Newcastle, rumour has it that the stars of these shows are the trendsetters who are driving thousands of us into cosmetic clinics up and down the country inspired by their social media posts as they share the results of their chosen procedures – from surgical enhancements to the more non-invasive tweaks and improvements.

And, whether it’s Scarlett Moffatt’s smile makeover with new veneers or Shaun Ryder’s dazzling grin, thanks to some incredible cosmetic dental work, smiles are very often the focus for those new to facing the cameras on a daily basis. Under the close scrutiny of the British public while appearing on TV screens, an awful lot of celebs who find fame on TV reality shows choose to enhance their smile above any other aesthetic procedure.

For the contestants on the X Factor, teeth whitening treatment is now very much part of the process – a well-known part of the deal as the show reaches it climax.

One Direction’s Niall famously underwent teeth straightening treatment while Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts updated her image with a new smile thanks to invisible braces and veneers.

The latest TV celeb to seek straighter teeth is Strictly’s Giovanni Pernice. He went to dentist Rhona Eskander, who works at Chelsea Dental Clinic in London, for Invisalign braces – the discreet clear aligners.

As he says about his treatment: ‘A smile is what everyone looks at first – I always wanted my teeth to look better. I was very conscious of the position of my teeth.’

Invisalign aligners are transparent and removable and fit snugly over the teeth. These are regularly changed as the position of the teeth shift and realign. The best part of the treatment is that they barely impact on our lifestyle. And, if worn for the recommended 22 hours a day, they can be removed to eat and drink or whenever you wish to move them – if performing on TV, for example!

Although, according to Giovanni’s dentist Rhona, he is highly committed to keeping them where they work best.

As the dancer says himself: ‘A smile, especially when you work in television, is one of the most important things.’ And he certainly didn’t let his treatment wrong-foot him along the way!
