Neck Lift
  • I dislike the sagging skin on my neck
  • I feel that my neck is making me look old

A neck lift is a surgical procedure that removes sagging, excess skin or fatty tissue creating a more streamlined and tighter silhouette with fewer visible signs of ageing in that area. A neck lift is performed by a surgeon under general anaesthetic.

For those who have sagging skin on the neck, a neck lift can help to reduce the visible signs of ageing by tightening the skin on the neck and around the jaw line.

Any sagging or excess skin or fatty tissue will be removed by the surgeon during neck lift surgery, creating a more streamlined and tighter silhouette with fewer visible signs of ageing in that area. Skin looks more defined, with a combination of liposuction and platysmaplasty used to achieve the desired results. The surgeon will sometimes use liposuction to remove the unwanted fatty tissue, while platysmaplasty is used to tighten the skin. This requires small incisions to be made (usually under the chin or behind the ears), so skin can then be tightened and the appearance of excess of saggy skin eliminated.

While some patients opt to have both a neck lift and a face lift to overhaul the entire face and neck, a neck lift may be sufficient on its own in some cases.

As a general anaesthetic is administered before the neck lift can be performed, a hospital stay is often required. The outcome of the neck lift will depend on factors such as how elastic the skin is and whether there is any sun damage or other issues.

Many of us see the first signs of ageing creeping in around the neck area. This is due to a loss of elasticity in the skin as it gets older, leading to the appearance of wrinkles and saggy bands or lines of excess skin. While ageing is a primary factor some other considerations can also make a neck lift desirable – such as skin sagging due to a large amount of weight loss. As a neck lift lends a tighter appearance to the skin, it can help to restore a more youthful, refreshed look.

Some amount of bruising or swelling is to be expected after a neck lift procedure has been carried out. This will typically begin to reduce after a period of around two weeks, although a complete recovery can take around one month.

Some everyday tasks such as returning to work can be accomplished with a week or two but other more physical jobs such as going to the gym should be abstained from for anything up to a month.

In the days immediately following the procedure it’s normal to feel some discomfort such as a burning sensation, a feeling of the skin being tugged or a sense of numbness in the treated area.

Costs vary for a neck lift but you should expect to pay between £1,400- £4,000.
